All Your Favourite Car Games, and New Ones, Too

Satisfy your need for speed playing all your favourite car racing games in a virtual environment.

Devoted gamers believe that Steve Jobs invented the computer mouse so that computerized car racing games would become both easier and more exciting. Once the mouse empowered a user to turn the cursor at oblique angles and trace curves, the horizons of virtual car racing stretched all the way out to the end of the infinite…and beyond. Simple as they are, car racing games remain among the most popular both on the internet and on handheld wireless applications. Those same devoted gamers believe Steve Jobs invented the iPhone’s motion sensor strictly for the sake of improving car racing apps.

You probably know that car games are deceptively simple: Follow the race course going as fast as you possibly can. How hard can that be? You’ve been following the same basic principles since you played car racing games on your old Commodore 64 system. Except that now, with the advent of 3D and a few other high-tech complications, game developers can bank the turns, create more dramatic spin-outs, and make the steering both more demanding and more precise.

Build your skills with “Dune Buggy.”
You may have been the Jimmie Johnson of your game console circuit, but playing car games with your computer requires adapting your skills; instead of a joy stick and a couple of buttons, you have your mouse or touchpad, your arrow keys, and your space bar. Online car games require their own unique set of skills and multi-tasks. Expect to crash spectacularly and burn in great balls of fire your first few times around the track. Of course, everybody knows “the fails” are as much fun as the great races.

Try “Dune Buggy,” one of the most popular entry-level car games at the internet’s most popular virtual arcades. “Dune Buggy” teaches you to move with the arrow keys and jump with the space bar, challenging you to navigate over, under, around, and through a variety of jumps, dips, and obstacles as you make your way through an off-road race course. Purely a game of speed and dexterity, “Dune Buggy” gets you in shape for more sophisticated car games, and you will know you are prepared for greater challenges when the trustworthy old buggy grows tiresome.

Advance to “FMX Team.”

Okay, strictly speaking, it is not a “car” game, but it counts among the leaders in the larger genre of driving games. FMX Team tests just how well you can manoeuvre those arrow keys and the space bar as you take your motorcycle through a series of tricky motorcycle stunts. The screen shows you the dirt track; a box in the screen’s upper left corner shows your stunts. You may choose among three different bikes, each equipped for different performance characteristics. As you get more comfortable with the game, you naturally will select the bike best suited to your style and level. FMX Team takes you through fifteen progressively more difficult levels; and, by the time you reach level 15, your fingers will fly around your keys so fast your friends will see just a flesh-tone blur.

Video Games and Your Kids – A Book Review

Like many parents, I am concerned about my kids spending too much time in front of a screen, whether that be television, computer, or video games. One reason for this is because I have seen how screen time interferes with other more important activities like reading, spending time with family, helping around the house, etc. It seems that boys in particular have a hard time accepting limits around gaming. Since I have two sons, I did not want any part of the constant fighting over the video game system between themselves and refusing to accept boundaries and limits that I see in other families. I’ve also observed kids missing sleep and even social interaction with peers because of spending too much in an artificial world, with detrimental effects.

Video Games and Your Kids gathers research, science and data about why parents should be concerned about video games. Rather than being the greatest invention since the baby wipe, video games are not always just harmless fun.

For one, video games are highly addictive. In fact they are designed to be so – marketers call it the “sticky factor”. The longer the child plays, the better in their estimation.

Secondly, video games have negative effects on the body and the brain – not only do video games contribute to a sedentary lifestyle but they also retrain the brain and the way it thinks. This has deleterious effects on how a child learns and their ability to learn outside the game. Parents sometimes believe that video and computer games are “educational” but the evidence does not support that assessment. Video games can also lead to a reduced attention span and reduced ability to deal appropriately in social situations. Video games can also lead to eye and vision problems, headaches, sleeping difficulties, and carpal tunnel syndrome. Kids who spend a lot of time gaming even develop poor posture.

Interestingly, the authors aren’t totally opposed to video games but remind parents that they must be very careful about their use. This book is helpful to a parent as it gives us research to back up those gut feelings we have. Allowing a child to have unrestricted access to video games is a bad thing. It also gives you some pointers from these experts on how to spot video game addiction and how to get help for your child – and even yourself or a spouse if you are the ones with a problem.

On Playing Online Games and Fast Internet Connections

One of the reasons as to why most people connect to the World Wide Web is because of online gaming. Since the dawn of the internet, there have been a lot of game manufacturers that released their online games on the net. Such games are often based on multiplayer gaming in a real time environment. From role playing games to shoot out gaming, you can find them all on the net. You can join them if you make an account on their website. Some of them are free while others require payment before you can enter their servers. However, even if you become a member, you would require a high speed computer with a fast internet connection in order to play their games. Unlike other computer games, online gaming requires constant downloading of files needed to open each page and effects. Without a high speed connection, you will not be able to move and play well.

Today, most social networking sites also have their online games for their members. They also have their own types of games ranging from real time games to multiplayer ones. Recently, a very famous networking site released a lot of online games which are accessible through the use of online portals. They released some games wherein you will create a café or a farm and there is a time schedule for each harvesting. There are also games based on taking care of animals, fighting gangs and killing vampires and you can also play these games if you become a member. However, some of their games are based on flash templates that needs a fast internet connection so without a good internet service provider, you will not be able to access some of their games.

If you want to play online games then there are ways to speed up your internet connection, however you will still need a high speed internet access in order to play some online games. A good way to speed up your internet access is through removing any updating software. Since some applications require constant updating, you need to set them to manual so that you will be the one to turn them on if you want to download their updates. You can also set some network monitor software applications so that you will also be able to check those applications that are eating your internet connection.

Another way to speed up your computer is through the use of a good web browser. Some web browsers are based on a fast internet connection so you can just download one that does not lack a high speed connection. You can also install a good antivirus and web security software in order to remove any intrusions that might make your internet connection slow. Remember though that even if you do these procedures, you will still need a fast connection in order to open some games so if you really want to get the best out of the web, you need to look for a good internet service provider.
